Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Upgrades to items allow players to improve their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item, the player needs to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.
Typically items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base, whereas items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change significantly in their stats after being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus, or additional effect, when the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, or found in loot from enemies, or obtained from missions and chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain level before they can be upgraded.
To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players will need to select it and then click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade stats will be and also the necessary component or material needed to complete the upgrade.
There are item upgrade of universal upgrades (which include gems) prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which include gems, can be put in any kind of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions are gems that can only be used in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They offer the same benefits as jewels, but they cannot be used with any other equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, will add their name to the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for example adding an Glyph to the Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would make it a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In item upgrading of upgrades for gathering tools when a player swaps one glyph with a different one the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will destroy it, with the exception of inscriptions which can be freely swapped.
Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade process is different from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item is able to be upgraded so many times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials needed do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a few essential items and maximize their impact rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across multiple pieces.
This will enable the item to receive new upgrade components, and have a greater chance of success. This bonus is referred to as the Artisan's Energy, and it will reset to zero after failure or increases if the upgrade succeeds.
Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its maximum level it can be eligible to gain affixes which will increase its features. The number of affixes that are available is contingent on the type of item it is. For example an uncommon or rare weapon with a normal base will have only two affixes available for it, while legendary armors can have up to eight affixes for it.
Each upgrade step will require an amount of Flightstones and crests based on the item's current level and the slot it's in. In general, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other types of equipment.
If an item doesn't attain its maximum level, the NPC grants players the option to transfer it to a different character and re-infuse the item with a different set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and costs the same amount of material however it will result in a lower chance of success.
To measure the height of a building, engineers will employ an instrument to compare the measurement against a known reference point like a benchmark, or the ground's elevation. This process is known as a "level-loop." This involves taking readings using the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method guarantees that structures are built to the highest level of accuracy and safety.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of changing an item's upgrade components. It is a vital aspect of the game and can dramatically enhance an item's strength and damage as well as other attributes. It is possible to do this through the menu for items or by pressing the Reroll button when you upgrade an item. Rerolling items can be expensive and should be handled with care.

Many players have the habit of rerolling their weapons and gear, especially in the early stages. This is because rerolling could give players a faster route to a more powerful character and allows them to climb higher levels and progress in the game more quickly.
Sets
Sets are groups of elements that can be organized in a variety of ways. They can be of various sizes, contain none at all, or contain a single element. To determine if an item is worth upgrading, players should click the Upgrade button on their screen of their character. It will show the item's attributes, along with the required items to upgrade it. To upgrade the No-mouth Face, for example, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards. Players can also visit the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to find out the upgrade requirements of specific items.
In general, weapons and armor are more valuable when they are fully updated. Especially for weapons that have damage glyphs that are spell-like or weapon-related and are upgraded to gold is recommended as it will provide a significant increase in their performance. Armor that has an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this because its defense will increase as it moves from purple to gold.
